My fellow Sisters and Brothers in Sri Lanka…

This morning , during my devotion for my nation, I was thinking of the important week ahead, we go into an election to appoint a new president next Saturday. My christian friends are talking about next Sunday, the day we would fellowship in the house of the Lord, they are sharing that people are afraid to leave their homes next Sunday, they fear trouble, violence and what not. I am moved to write to all my fellow brothers and sisters back home.

My dear fellow believers in Jesus, living in Sri Lanka, Greetings in the mighty name of Jesus! Despite being far away and not sensing the ground reality as all of you do, as a family away from it all, we have and are committed to pray for our nation everyday. This morning, as I prayed for the very important week before us, the Lord encouraged me with His word:

“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.”

As believers, we know and have confidence that ‘all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together’.

I am sensing fear next Sunday in many churches, already some churches have announced that they will cancel service on Sunday. I know that people are concerned, fear of problems, no public transport, etc., and something that got me thinking was, ‘Lord, why this election on a Saturday, Sunday is your day, why are we afraid of the sabbath?’

The Lord opened my eyes to something that surely is and evidently so accurate that ‘all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together‘! I researched the history of our past elections since 1970. Not one Presidential or General election was held on a Saturday! The Lord appointed this date for sure and the results will be out on a Sunday, the Lord’s day, the sabbath! This is truly God ordained and in no way an accident. Keep the sabbath HOLY, it is HIS day, we must celebrate His appointment! Churches and believers must not be discouraged about next Sunday! ‘And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy’.

I am truly excited for next Sunday, I know He is in control, He has already appointed, He has already begun speaking to every voter, we just have to listen only to His voice, no other voice matters! Spend quiet time in prayer this week, please, this is what the Lord requires from us.

‘Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.’ Psalms 46:6 (NIV)

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
