Redirecting Praise: Honoring the Giver of Blessings

For us, Ephesians 1:3 is like a lens that helps us see blessings correctly — not just enjoy them, but trace them back to God’s heart. It Redirects Praise to the Source – “Praise be to God…” —
We don’t just celebrate the gift, We honor the Giver first.

Cindy wanted to surprise me. She sincerely tried, I could read her mind and had to eventually tell her that whilst I can sense something, I will not ask her details, to which she was so relieved! We both know that the idea was good, however we also know that “This is from God — He is good”, and we must honour each other.

Blessings are not the destination — they are signposts pointing to God’s goodness

The thought of a surprise was exciting. I was looking forward to what was going to happen. I was grateful, the love was overflowing, and as I thanked God for what to expect, it reminded me what “Blessing” or being blessed really meant, it was not about health, success, family, or provision, it was pointing me to something deeper, it was a reminder of being chosen, forgiven, adopted and redeemed. It was also a reminder of not taking good seasons for granted and not becoming bitter or upset in difficult seasons.

A bad habit that I keep trying hard to get better at is ‘responding aggressively in a loud voice’.  We began the day with multiple greetings and phone calls and at one point, I ‘snapped’, which hurt Cindy. She did not fuss over it, yet I knew I had ‘upset the apple cart’! It took me a while to acknowledge that blessings flow from being in relationship with our creator — not from performance or luck. I needed to acknowledge  that appreciation becomes relational, God is good to us and we are not just in a situation where things are going well.

God has blessed us with a beautiful celebration, wonderful friends and a loving family. We just must and will thank Him together. We can turns our celebration into worship, celebrating each other as gifts from God and we are so grateful for this.

“Lord, thank You for this moment — it reflects Your kindness to us.”

Every blessing becomes an invitation, not just to enjoy life — but to know God more deeply as good, generous, and faithful.
